Horeb Bulambo Shindano and MCB, longtime friends and collaborators with a combined 45 years of reporting and guiding experience in Central Africa, lead trips exploring the cultural and geographic richness of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (D.R.C.).

The countless valuable inputs by master photographer MCB have made this venture an unforgettable experience.

David Erni, 2021 Expedition

Employing a diverse team of local experts, guides and storytellers, their expeditions explore the eastern Kivu provinces, the Congo River of Kisangani and the bustling capital of Kinshasa, bringing travelers through the heart of a country often misrepresented and misunderstood.

GEOGRAPHY

The largest country in Sub-Saharan Africa, the D.R.C. is home to the world’s deepest river and the world’s second largest rainforest.

On the country’s eastern frontier with Rwanda and Uganda, lie the provinces of North and South Kivu. North and South Kivu are bordered to their east by the African Great Lakes of Lake Kivu and Lake Edward. It is a region of volcanoes, rich montane forests, and dramatic rivers. It is also the location of the Virunga National Park, the oldest park in Africa and a world heritage site which is one of only two remaining habitats for the endangered mountain gorilla.

The natural riches of the D.R.C. have been largely overshadowed by several decades of ongoing war and, as a result few tourists visit the country each year.

I was not centered around photography - the experience was so much more than that. Michael did a great job going beyond his photography skills and giving context and stories about the locations as well. I consider him a great friend and helpful teacher.

2024 TRIPS

We are offering two trips for 2024.

Our eastern trip begins in Goma and explores the environs of Lake Kivu, including cities of Goma and Bukavu as well as the Kahuzi-Biega and Virunga Parks. We fly to Kisangani to visit the Congo River and experience indigenous traditions.

Our western trip is based in the mega city of Kinshasa and explores the rich cultural urban activities, indigenous traditions and nature, including the Congo River.

An eye opening and incredibly rich experience. We really ticked all the exploration boxes I can think of - culturally, geographically, photographically. Amazingly well organised and orchestrated given the ever evolving constraints. I learned a lot, I got a lot of photos I'm very happy with, and I made a bunch of new friends. Very highly recommended.

Glen Wilde, 2022 Expedition

Trips are available in both standard and luxury packages, ranging from 7-14 days.
